Lakselaget

Lakselaget is a professional women's organization based in Golden Valley, MN, dedicated to fostering connections around Norwegian culture, contemporary issues, and professional development. The organization provides a dynamic platform for networking and mentorship among members who share a passion for Norwegian heritage and modern topics spanning the arts, health, history, sports, and cultural traditions. Lakselaget convenes monthly from October through May on the first Saturday of each month, featuring noteworthy speakers and educational programming that explores diverse aspects of Norwegian life and culture. Beyond social and professional networking, Lakselaget actively supports educational advancement through its scholarship and grant programs. The organization awards scholarships to Norwegian students pursuing studies in Minnesota or at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, as well as to Minnesotans seeking educational opportunities in Norway. Additionally, Lakselaget provides grants to Minnesota professional women and Norwegian interns gaining work experience across both regions, with funding designed to supplement lost wages during valuable internship and study experiences. Since its founding in Minneapolis in January 2002 by Ingeborg D. Sorensen, Leslee Lane Hoyum, and Linda Pederson, Lakselaget has maintained its commitment to building meaningful professional relationships while advancing educational opportunities for women interested in Norwegian culture and international exchange. The organization continues its tradition of monthly gatherings that combine professional development, cultural enrichment, and community support.
